Caring for the Animals Trust

CARING FOR THE ANIMALS TRUST IS A NOT FOR PROFIT ORGANISATION.

We are a small, UK registered society working to improve the lives of animals in Greece.

Many of our supporters have visited Greece and have been appalled at the cruelty and neglect of animals there.  We are determined to make a difference and as we have no overheads and pay no salaries (all services are given free), we are able to use every penny collected for suffering animals in Greece.

Caring for the Animals Trust also known as CARAT for short, was set up by Gwen Ware in October 2002.

what we do

Saving Greek Animals

MakING a Donation

In Greece there is no RSPCA equivalent. There are however, kind hearted people who run a number of small, under funded societies.

We support around 20 individuals and small organisations who are helping where and how they can.

We don’t receive any funding apart from donations made to us. We rely entirely on your generosity to help us keep rescuing these animals that desperately need our help.

Every penny of your donation goes towards the help and rescue of these neglected animals in Greece. Every donation, however small, is valuable to us.

MakING a DIFFERENCE

We are appalled at the cruelty and neglect of animals in Greece and are determined to make a difference. There are so many ways you can get involved from re-homing a rescue, fundraising on our behalf, or making a donation.

You can also consider helping CARAT to help animals by becoming a member and receiving our biannual newsletter showing you how your money has been spent.

Individual membership £20 per year. Concessions (OAP/unwaged/under 18) £10.00 per year

About CARAT

Rescue * Reform * Re-home

Rescuing GREEK ANIMALS

CARAT supports around 20 individuals and small animal welfare societies in Greece – the grass roots societies that do so much for the stray animals and yet who are often overlooked for bigger organisations.

STERILISING & EDUCATION

We promote and fund sterilising campaigns – we strongly believe that sterilisation and education are the only way to work for a future where no animals are forced to struggle for survival on the harsh streets.

re-homing

We are always looking for good homes for rescued dogs and cats. All the animals we offer for adoption are sterilised, vaccinated, microchipped, bloodtested, health checked and come with a current Pet Passport

….What Drives Us

Zorba’s Legacy

People often ask how Titch and I met and started doing all of this. Well, that’s where Zorba comes in. Titch and I began rescuing dogs from Greece in 2001. I had decided I wanted to get more hands on in terms of rescue work and so I volunteered through the charity Greek Animal Rescue to go and work at a dog shelter out there. I stayed at the shelter for almost a year helping look after around 100 dogs. The first dog I sent for adoption from the shelter was a dog named Zorba. I had no idea at the time how big a part he would play in our lives……

Could you be a CARAT foster?

We are always looking for caring homes that are able to offer a short term home for our rescued animals.
